Recipe Four: "Plastic" Milk

This experiment will create a fun moldable ball that only needs vinegar to work! This recipe will create a squishy, clay like mixture that can be used to create a fun shape or design! Adding in colour will also make your creation more interesting. One of my concerns was that eventually this hardened ball would begin to smell, however I've had mine laying around for over a week and I haven't noticed anything- although there is a bit of a vinegar smell, it's not overpowering or really noticable.

Be careful after molding into the shape you created, it can be a bit crumbly in this state. Make sure you give it at least a day to completly dry out! Also, this recipe creates a pretty small ball, so just double the recipe if you more to create and mold with!

Tip: After the molded ball hardens, it can be painted on or drawn on! I used a golden sharpie on mine.

Ingredients & Process

You Will Need:

  • 1 Cup of chosen dairy
  • 3-4 Teaspoons of white vinegar
  • A strainer

Optional:

  • Food colouring

Instructions:

  • Heat up your milk in either a microwave or stove top until hot (it's easiest to add in colouring at this time!)
  • Pour the mixture into a mixing bowl large enough to stir in
  • Add in the vinegar and mix for about 1 minute (you will notice the milk will begin to curdle as soon as you pour the vinegar)
  • Pour mixture through a strainer
  • Rinse the chunks with water
  • Start molding and let it harden over night!
